Canada in the World

Canadians are not just home bodies. We're involved in all sorts of issues in the wider world. A few are listed below.

  1. World War I
  2. World War II
  3. Korean War
  4. Land Mines and the treaty to get rid of them
  5. War in Afghanistan
  6. Global Warming/Greenhouse Gases

You are going to research one of these topics with a couple of other people. You are going to decide how you want to split up the information, and then you are going to post it on a wiki.

  1. Things to find out. Not all of these may apply to all situations.
    • Why did your event get started?
    • When did it get started?
    • How did it end?
    • How long did it last?
    • Who were the main people involved?
    • Who are the main people involved (if it is still going on today)?
    • What is Canada's role?
    • Why did Canada become involved?
    • How did Canada become involved?
    • What is the lasting significance of this event? How does it affect us even today?
    • When you put this on your pages, don't do it as answers to the questions.
      • Try setting it up as paragraphs and bullet points that use sentences.
      • Use multiple pages (and subpages (Ask Mr. D. if you don't know how to do that) organize your information in a logical way.
    • Include videos where appropriate.
      • YouTube has a lot of great stuff, but it also has a lot of inappropriate stuff.
      • Use discretion in what you pick.
    • Include pictures where appropriate.
      • Are you allowed to use the pictures you're grabbing?
      • Did you give credit for the pictures you used?
    • Use the newspaper. We have access to the Winnipeg Free Press Archives. Use them.
    • Include links to useful information.
    • Evaluate your sources. Just because it's on YouTube or on the Internet doesn't mean it's honest, true, or fair. Think critically.
    • Provide a bibliography of the resources you used. Link to the sources you used.

    1. The wiki you will use is located here.
    2. You will gather links, videos, and other material from the Internet, and provide links to it or embed it as may be appropriate.
    3. Remember that copyright rules still apply. You can't just take pictures without permission.
